Cumberland hall of fame baseball coach Woody Hunt and son Scott will hold a pair of one-day clinics for players ages 9-16 at the Benton Jennings Practice Facility Jan. 9. Catchers will work out from 9-11:30 a.m. and infielders from 1-3:30 p.m. Catchers should bring their own equipment and infielders a glove and cap. All players should wear sneakers, no cleats. Dansby Swanson to speak at MJ baseball dinner
Former Vanderbilt shortstop Dansby Swanson will be the guest speaker for Mt. Juliet High’s annual fundraising dinner at 6 p.m. Jan. 18 at Victory Baptist Church. Swanson was the No. 1 draft pick last June by the Arizona Diamondbacks but was traded to the Atlanta Braves earlier this offseason. Lebanon Youth Baseball signups under way online
Online signups for the 2016 Lebanon Youth Baseball season are under way through Feb. 20 on the league’s website, lebanonyouthbaseball.net. All players, new and returning, must register. Tryouts, which are coaches’ evaluations, will be held Feb. 20-21. The league draft will be Feb. 27 and the first week of practice will be Feb. 29-March 4. Opening day will be April 2 with league playoffs and championships June 6-11.
MJ baseball launches stadium legacy program
Mt. Juliet High baseball is installing 117 reserved seatback chairs in the bleachers behind home plate available to season ticketholders as part of the stadium legacy program launched by the MJHS Baseball Booster Club. Fans, including businesses, who purchase one or more of the seatback chairs will have his/her/company name permanently engraved into the metal seat number plate. Booster club member Derek Hunley said 20 seats were sold within the first 48 hours of rolling out the program.
