APPALACHIA, VA - William “Willie” Fig, 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 7, 2019.

He was born December 13, 1932 in Osaka, VA, the 7th son of Frank and Eva Gilliam (Figliuzzi) Fig.  First and foremost, Willie was a family man.  He loved his wife of 65 years, Mary Lou, children and grandchildren.  He loved the outdoors and spent lots of time gardening.   He retired from Norton Community Hospital in 1994 and worked many years as a contractor and painter.  He was a self-taught craftsman.  A man of few words using both wit and wisdom, his one-liners would either make you think or make you laugh.   He whistled everywhere he went.  He was a gentle man.

He was preceded in death by his loving daughter, Tressa Dayene Fraley; his parents, Frank and Eva Fig; his brothers, James, Ralph, Jack, Elmer, and Robert.

He is survived by the love of his life, Mary Lou; son, William Michael “Mike” and Amanda Fig and Jaden; daughter, Nedra and Jon Nieman, Cheyenne and Dakota; daughter, Tammy and Lee Collier and David; and brothers, Raymond and Don Fig.

The family will receive friends at Gilliam Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, 5:00-7:00 p.m.  Funeral at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor John Varner officiating.
