Maxwell Nolan Lawson, 25, was located on Monday by the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office. He was then arrested on outstanding warrants from Kingsport police, who began investigating his alleged crimes in June.
The incidents reportedly occurred at Mad Greek, 4217 West Stone Drive. Records at the Kingsport Police Department state a manager suspected embezzlement and credit card fraud by Lawson, who worked there from late April through May 24.
According to the manager, Lawson had inflated the tip amounts on credit card transactions, charged several customers for drinks they had not ordered and pocketed cash. As evidence, police were provided receipts for 85 allegedly fraudulent transactions.
Some victims had reportedly contacted the restaurant and received refunds. The total amount stolen is currently estimated at between $1,000 and $1,200, although police records state there could be “several” additional victims.
Lawson, Roland Street, Weber City, was jailed Monday on a count of felony theft of more than $1,000.
