COVID-19 cases hold steady throughout region

No new COVID-19 cases were reported Saturday in Southwest Virginia or Northeast Tennessee.

According to the Tennessee Department of Health’s tracking webpage (www.tn.gov/health/cedep/ncov), no new cases or deaths were reported Saturday.

Sullivan County remained at 57 cases and two deaths to date, while Hawkins County’s case total was adjusted downward to 31 cases and two deaths.

Carter County stayed at 19 cases and one death and Greene County at 46 cases and two deaths. Washington County remained at 66 cases, with Johnson County at 15 and Unicoi County at three.

In Tennessee, the statewide case total rose by 318 to 17,288 while deaths rose by five to 295. The statewide testing rate was 320,201 of 6.83 million residents, or 4.69%.

Testing rates by county in Northeast Tennessee were:

— Hawkins, 1,254 people or 2.2%

— Sullivan, 3,023 people or 1.91%

— Washington, 2,672 people or 2.1%

— Johnson, 1,846 or 10.4%

— Carter, 1,134 or 2%

- Greene, 1,558 or 2.26%

— Unicoi, 374 or 2.1%

In the LENOWISCO Health District, according to the Virginia Department of Health tracking webpage (www.vdh.virginia.gov/coronavirus), the region’s case and death totals remained at 42 and four, respectively. Lee County had 10 cases, Norton two cases, Wise County 23 cases and two deaths and Scott County seven cases and two deaths.

Statewide, Virginia reported 28,672 total COVID-19 cases and 1,002 deaths — increases of 1,011 and 25, respectively. The statewide testing rate was 205,249 of 8.63 million state residents, or 2.38%.

Testing rates for the LENOWISCO localities were:

— Lee County, 337 or 1.78%

— Norton, 75 or 1.89%

— Wise County 759 or 2%

— Scott County, 367 or 1.7%
