Far SWVA sees new COVID-19 case, fourth death

After 11 days of no change in COVID-19 cases, far Southwest Virginia saw one case and a death Wednesday.

According to the Virginia Department of Health COVID-19 tracking webpage (www.vdh.virginia.gov/coronavirus), Wise County was the site of the latest increase in the LENOWISCO Health District, with a new confirmed case and a death. That brings Wise County’s total to 22 cases and two deaths since the pandemic began in early March.

Lee County remained at 10 cases and no deaths, Scott County at seven cases and two deaths and Norton with two cases. The LENOWISCO district stands at 42 cases and four deaths across the pandemic.

Statewide, Virginia has a total of 26,746 total cases and 927 deaths during the pandemic – an increase of 946 cases and 36 deaths.
